Line 11 :

Cordage cut to a specific length for a specific purpose, viz. lowering line, life line, belt line. The term is derived from the use of ropes at sea, and is commonly used to distinguish between the manufacturer's product in bulk (i. e. 219m (120 fathoms) of 51 mm (2 in. manila rope, etc. and the lengths which are cut from it. Natural fibre ropes are made principally of Italian hemp or manila. Man-made fibre ropes are generally made from nylon or a polyester fibre (U. K. trade name terylene). Wire rope, combination of steel wires arranged around a central fibre core is limited, since although stronger than fibre ropes it is less flexible and thus used for equipment )operated by a winch, e. g. turntable ladder.
