Liquefaction 09

Liquefaction 09 : Process by which water-saturated sediment or soil temporarily loses strength and acts as a fluid. The transformation of a granular material from a solid state into a liquefied state is caused by increased pore water pressures and reduced effective stress. This effect can be caused by ground motion (earthquake shaking) and be associated with sand boil. See Youd (2003)
