Liquefaction 21

Liquefaction 21 : The transformation of a granular material from a solid state into a liquefied state as a consequence of increased pore water pressures and reduced effective stress. In engineering seismology, it refers to the loss of soil strength as a result of an increase in pore pressure due to ground motion. This effect can be caused by earthquake shaking. (IASPEI)
