Long-Period Earthquake 1
Long-Period Earthquake 1 : Small, local seismic events occurring under volcanoes with emergent onset of P waves, no distinct S waves, and a low frequency content (1 to 5 Hz) as compared with the usual tectonic earthquakes of the same magnitude; also called B-type or low-frequency earthquake. The observed features are attributed to the involvement of fluid such as magma and/or water in the source process. See Chouet (1996a) for the review of its observation and interpretation.
