Antiknock Agent


Antiknock Agent : (Techn) A chemical added to gasoline to raise its octane number, enabling engines to operate without knock at higher compression ratios. Knock is caused by spontaneous ignition of unburned fuel mixture ahead of the flame front in a combustion chamber. Syn: Antidetonation Agent. See: also: Additive
