Antioxidant 2 : A compound that retards deterioration by oxidation. Antioxidants for human food and animal feeds, sometimes referred to as freshness preservers, retard rancidity of fats and lessen loss of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K). Antioxidants also are added to rubber, motor lubricants, and other materials to inhibit deterioration
