The concentration of a substance to which test organisms are exposed that is estimated to be effective in producing some sublethal response in 50 percent of the test population. The EC50 usually is expressed as a time-dependent value (e.g., 24-hour EC50). The sublethal response elicited from the test organisms as a result of exposure must be clearly defined
