Megalithic Yard : A unit of distance equal to about 83 centimeters or 2.72 feet, defined in 1951 by the Scottish engineer Alexander Thom (1894-1985). Thom claimed this unit was used in the construction of many megalithic monuments, including Stonehenge. If so, the unit was probably measured by the length of a workman's arm
