Melting Point 02 :
(Chem; Phys; Abb: mp) The temperature at which the solid and liquid phases of a substance are in equilibrium; usually used in reference to temperatures above 0ºC. Note: The heat absorbed by a melting substance is called the latent heat of melting. The melting point is usually affected by pressure. In some cases the melting point is raised and in others lowered when pressure is increased, depending on whether the liquid or solid phase has the greater density. See: Freezing Point
