In some poisonings, haemoglobin (the substance in the red blood cells to which the oxygen is fixed) may be transformed to methaemoglobin. Methaemoglobin lacks the ability of binding the oxygen, concequently lack of oxygen occures in the organism. When a certain amount of haemoglobi has been transformed to methaemoglobin, mucous memranes and skin become bluish and discolored
