Mitigation (From Dhs Lexicon) 4 : Definition: ongoing and sustained action to reduce the probability of, or lessen the impact of, an adverse incident. Extended Definition: actions may be implemented prior to, during, or after an incident occurrence. Sample Usage: Through the use of mitigation measures, the impact of the tsunami on the local population was greatly reduced. Annotation: Mitigation measures may include zoning and building codes, floodplain buyouts, and analysis of hazard-related data to determine where it is safe to build or locate temporary facilities. Mitigation can include efforts to educate governments, businesses, and the public on measures they can take to reduce loss and injury. Technical measures can include the development of technologies that result in mitigation and can be used to support mitigation strategy
