Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale 2 : (Jaffe, Buffer, and Thurow 1981) Intensity Detectability/Level Impact: (1) Detected only by sensitive instruments; (2) Felt by a few persons at rest, especially on upper floors; (3) Felt noticeably indoors, but not always recognized as a quake; (4) Felt indoors by many, outdoors by a few; (5) Felt by most people, damage to glass and plaster; (6) Felt by all, many frightened and run outdoors, damage small; (7) Everybody runs outdoors, damage to buildings varies; (8) Panel walls thrown out of frames, fall of walls and chimneys; (9) Buildings shifted off foundations, cracked, thrown out of plumb; (10) Most masonry and framed structures destroyed, ground cracked; (11) New structures still standing, bridges destroyed, ground fissures; (12) Damage total, waves seen on ground surface;
