Mohorovičić Discontinuity 5 :

Natural Disaster. A discontinuity in seismic velocities that defines the boundary between crust and mantle of the Earth. Named after the Croation seismologist Andrija Mohorovičič (1857-1936) who discovered it. The boundary is between 20 and 60 km deep beneath the continents and between 5 and 10 km deep beneath the ocean floor. See Fig. 2.10 ??? in Chapter 2 of this Manual, Mooney et al.
