Monitor 01 : (1) (Safety) To observe an area closely to See: Whether It is Safe for Workers. (2) (Fire Pr) A master-stream device usually fed by several hose lines through a siamese connection, operated by handwheel and gears, and used to throw a heavy fire stream or fog spray. Note: The device is usually mounted permanently on a fire apparatus, fireboat, or elevating platform, but some models are designed to operate on the ground unattended. (3) (Fire Pr) A firefighter trained and equipped to detect radiation hazards and to deal with them in emergency situations. (4) (Dosim) An instrument that measures the level of ionizing radiation. (5) (Build) A vent extending above the roof line, opening on at least two opposite sides. Note: The openings are normally closed by louvered panels, metal doors, or glass panes. Monitor vents are often designed to open automatically
