National Security Emergency Preparedness Critical Functions : Six critical functions that have been identified for DOE during a continuity of government emergency, as follows: (1) Coordinate the provision of fuel resources (i.e. coal, natural gas, crude oil, and petroleum products and their respective production/distribution systems) in support of emergency assistance/ restoration activities; (2) Develop a national recovery plan for fuel production/distribution; (3) Coordinate the provision of electric power in support of emergency assistance/restoration activities; (4) Coordinate the continued safe operation of nuclear power production facilities in support of emergency assistance/restoration activities; (5) Develop a national recovery plan for electric power production/distribution; and Restore the manufacture, assembly, transport, and control of nuclear weapons or devices.
