Net Positive Suction Head
Net Positive Suction Head : (NPSH) The pressure that causes liquid to flow through suction piping or hose and into the eye of the impeller of a pump; for a pump drafting water, the NPSH equals the barometric pressure (ft), minus the lift, minus the friction losses in the suction, minus the vapor pressure of the liquid. For a pump getting its water under pressure, such as from a hydrant, the NPSH equals the barometric pressure (ft), plus the pressure at the pump (ft), minus the friction losses in the suction, minus the vapor pressure of the liquid.
