Acceptable Risk 23 : Disaster Management. The probability associated with a social or economic consequence of an earthquake that is low enough (in comparison with other risks) to be judged acceptable by appropriate authorities. It is often used to represent a realistic basis for determining design requirements for engineered structures, or for taking certain social or economic actions. What kind and level of risk is considered to be acceptable by a society also depends also on its socio-economic and political conditions
