Aqueous Film-Forming Foam 4

Aqueous Film-Forming Foam 4 :

(Fire Pr; Abb: AFFF) A type of firefighting air foam produced by special fluoro-carbon surfactant foam concentrates that controls the vaporization of flammable liquids by means of a water film that develops as the foam is applied. The film also serves as a coolant and excludes air from the fuel. Compatible with dry chemical agents and with protein and fluoro-protein foams, but not with foam concentrates. Also called: Light Water. Note: AFFF is intended primarily for liquid hydrocarbon fuel fires. It is not recommended for liquefied gases such as butane, propane, and butadiene, nor for cryogenic liquefied gases or polar solvents. Because of its water content, AFFF cannot be used on energized electrical equipment nor on materials, such as metallic sodium, that react with water or produce hazardous substances by reaction with water
