Nonmetal


Nonmetal : (Chem) An element, such as a gas (oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen), liquid (bromine), or solid (boron, carbon, sulfur) that is a poor conductor of heat and electricity, has no characteristic metallic luster, and forms acidic oxides and hydroxides. Note: The term nonmetal is not used for all substances that are not metals, such as plastics or wood, which are properly called nonmetallic materials. Tellurium, antimony, and one form of tin have nonmetal properties but are called metalloids
