Nonpoint Source 1 : (a) A diffuse pollution source that is not recognized to have a single point of origin. [CARB, 2000: Glossary of Air Pollution Terms]; (b) A contributing factor to water pollution that cannot be traced to a specific spot; like agricultural fertilizer runoff, sediment from construction. [SRA, 1999: Glossary of Risk Analysis Terms] [USDOE, 2000: RAIS Glossary]; (c) A diffuse pollution source (i.e., without a single point of origin or not introduced into a receiving stream from a specific outlet). The pollutants are generally carried off the land by storm water. Common non_point sources are agriculture, forestry, urban, mining, construction, dams, channels, land disposal, saltwater intrusion, and city streets. [USEPA, 1997a: EPA Terms of Environment]
