Pronounced [non-ruh]. A term to describe a poor, inaccurate, misnomer of a genre classification. Example. The Super Smash Brothers series doesn't belong in the party genre. It's a fighting game. Also, a new genre of video game for a game that appears to be of one genre because of it's visual presentation and gameplay mechanics, but eventually emerges into a completely different genre. For example, a kart racing game that, when played at a high level, emerges to be a turn based strategy game
