Nuclear Incident Response Team (NIRT) 2 :
"NIRT teams are specialized teams managed dayto- day by the Department of Energy (DOE) / National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). They are operationally controlled by DHS/FEMA when activated to provide expert technical advice and support in disaster response operations and other needs involving nuclear weapons accidents, radiological accidents, lost or stolen radioactive material incidents, and acts of nuclear terrorism".
