NWS 4 : National Weather Service. A part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA, Looked it up elsewhere in the source) which, in turn, is a major component of the U. S. Department of Commerce. NWS provides weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas. NWS data and products form a national information database which can be used by other governmental agencies, the private sector, the public, and the global community. NWS has a program to select and train volunteers as official spotters
