Octal notation

Octal notation :

(Math) A number system, based on powers of 8, widely used in computer technology. For example, the decimal number 10 = 81 + 2, so in octal notation the decimal number 10 is written 12 (one eight and two ones). Decimal 25 = octal 31 ((3 • 81) + 1) ; decimal 148 = octal 224 ((2 • 82) + (2 • 81) + 4); and so forth. See also: Number Systems
