Officer in charge : (Fire Pr) The highest ranking officer at a fire or commanding an on-duty fire department unit. Note: The senior officer of a given rank is usually in command, unless another officer of equal rank is specifically assigned to command. In a mutual aid situation, the highest ranking officer of the local fire department is in command, regardless of the ranks of the officers of assisting units
