Opening 1


Opening 1 : (Build) Any aperture or passageway through a wall, floor, ceiling, roof, or partition. Note: A Class A opening is a door-way or other opening through a wall separating buildings or dividing a single building into fire areas; closures for these openings normally require a fire endurance rating of 3 hours. Class B: A doorway or other opening in enclosures of vertical communication through buildings (stairs, elevators, etc. ; doors for these openings normally require a fire endurance rating of 1 or 1-1/2 hours. Class C: A doorway in a corridor or in room partitions; doors for these openings normally require a fire endurance rating of 3/4 hour. Class D: A doorway or other opening in an exterior wall that may be subjected to severe fire exposure from outside of the building; doors and shutters for such openings normally require a fire endurance rating of 1-1/2 hours. Classes E and F: Doorways or other openings in exterior walls that are subject to moderate or light fire exposure, respectively, from outside of the building; doors, shutters or windows for such openings normally require a fire endurance rating of 3/4 hour
