Paleomagnetism 1 : All rocks exhibit magnetic properties imparted to them by the Earth's magnetic field at the time they were formed, and preserved to the present time as remanent magnetism. Paleomagnetism is the study of these properties, or the properties themselves. See Merrill and McFadden (2002)
