Severe PI: Healthcare Q&A 4: Correctly Putting on and Removing PPE: When PPE is necessary for the specific situation, HHS/CDC recommends that personal protective equipment be put on in the following order: (1) Gown; (2) Respirator (or mask, when appropriate); (3) Face shield or goggles; (4) Gloves. Upon leaving the room, HHS/CDC recommends that PPE be removed in a way to avoid self-contamination, as follows: (1) Gloves; (2) Faceshield or goggles; (3) Gown; (4) Respirator or mask. Remember to always use hand hygiene after removing PPE.
