Pentode :
A valve with a cathode, anode, and three grids, the nearest to the cathode being the control grid, and having a small negative bias, the next being connected to the cathode by a large condenser (0. 5ºF, say) and having a high positive bias; the furthest being actually connected to the cathode inside the valve. The effect of the last grid is to smooth out the falling part of the characteristic of the screen-grid valve
