Persistence 02 : (a) In Scorecard, persistence generally refers to environmental persistence: the length of time a chemical stays in the environment, once introduced. Persistent chemicals do not break down easily in the environment. [ED, 2000: Environmental Scorecard Glossary]; (b) The quality of remaining for a long period of time (such as in the environment or the body). Persistent chemicals (such as DDT and PCBs) are not easily broken down.
